Crosswalk

Crosswalk Petition and Center Pedestrian Island

Where? Opposite the Dunkin Donuts on Newman Springs Road.

Why a Center Island and Crosswalk?

Many pedestrians already dangerously cross mid-block.
• Difficult to cross all 5-lanes at once
• Pedestrians stand in center dual left turn lane when waiting for lanes to clear
• Monmouth County pedestrian counts are high for mid-block crossings on 520.
• Crosswalks at Hurleys Lane and Middletown-Lincroft Road are 1000 feet apart. To cross at the lights pedestrians would walk an extra 1000 ft (1/5 mile) to cross from Dunkin Donuts to Acme.

Center Island and crosswalk through it:
• Island would be small and not block any traffic
• Center island in a place where no left turns are made
• Center islands help calm traffic
• Crosswalks can be engineered for improved safety (blinking lights, signs, lower speed, etc.)
• Pedestrians can stand in center island while waiting for the 2nd two lanes to clear

A mid-block crosswalk and pedestrian refuge island at that location meets engineering standards and is supported by:
• New Jersey Future in Transportation Initiative
• Federal Highway Administration
• Context Sensitive Design of roads
• Project for Public Spaces

We can’t stop the mid-block crossers. Let’s give them a safe place to cross! Please sign the petition and mail to LVGA P.O. Box 101, Lincroft, NJ 07738 or send an email in support to info@lincroftvillagegreen.org
