Monmouth County is Constructing a Multi-Purpose Path along Newman Springs Road

The county's construction of a multi-use path along the south side of CR 520 is complete except for needed bridges over two wetland areas. The proposed bridges over the two areas, which are close to the road and on Thompson Park property, are currently being studied for environmental impact. In the fall of 2008 we were informed that, although a permanent bridge plan has not been approved, the county has been given permission to erect a temporary pre-fabricated bridge at the pond across from CBA property. This should be taking place early in 2009. The path is being funded as part of a $1.4 million grant from the federal government to build needed sidewalks throughout the county. (Read more about the planned sidewalks here.)

When completed, the path will extend from the Lincroft School to Old Mill Road in Holmdel, near the intersection of CR 520 and Middletown Road.  In most areas the path will be wide enough to accommodate both pedestrians on foot as well as bicycles and will be constructed of asphalt.

The new path begins at the entrance to the Lincroft ball fields, next to Lincroft School.  (Shown in the photo on the left, below.)  At the exit driveway to the ball fields, the path moves away from CR 520 and travels behind the buildings opposite the post office (center photo).  The path is about 20 feet from CR520 and behind the Brookdale Community College fence (photo on right) after emerging from behind the buildings.  The path then travels along the BCC main road a distance of about 75 feet before crossing the road and moving on towards Thompson Park.  Plans are for the path to travel through and along both Thompson Park and Cross Farm Park in Holmdel until it meets the existing sidewalks in the village of Holmdel. When completed, it will be possible to walk from Lincroft Village to Holmdel Village on the path.

The Lincroft Village Green Association wishes to thank the county for planning and constructing this huge improvement to pedestrian access and safety in Monmouth County.
